Happy Thanksgiving
I'm counting my blessings this Thanksgiving, and remembering I have much to be thankful for. I have a wonderful husband who loves, supports and cares for me. And after being sick this year, I am more thankful for my health. I'm thankful for relationships being restored in my family this year. I'm thankful for my dogs that are preparing me well for parenthood someday. We are blessed with wonderful friends, even though most of them live far away. I'm thankful for a roof over my head and food in my fridge. I really could type all night. Yes, the Lord has truly blessed me.

To Judge or Not to Judge
To Judge or Not to Judge.
In the last couple of years it has been my experience while witnessing or sharing Scripture with unbelievers that I keep running into the same reaction from people, “Doesn’t the bible say we shouldn’t judge?” Most of these conversations have to do with people choosing to live in a homosexual lifestyle and whether or not they should have the right to be married. So I decided it was time to dive into that scripture, because looking from their perspective, I can see how it would come across as judgmental, no matter how many times I say that we still love them, but cannot condone their lifestyle.
When I did a search for the word “judge” in the bible I found a couple of interesting stories in the Old Testament that actually seemed similar to mine. Turn to Genesis 19. We’re looking at Sodom. Lot welcomes the visitors/angels into his house and the perverts from Sodom come knocking at his door.
6 So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him, 7 and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly! 8 See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”
9 And they said, “Stand back!” Then they said, “This one came in to stay here, and he keeps acting as a judge; now we will deal worse with you than with them.” So they pressed hard against the man Lot, and came near to break down the door. 10 But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.
First of all, let me just say that I am so glad that Lot was not my father! Second of all, I’m going to judge Lot here and say that I think Sodom has rubbed off a little on him. I don’t think he was being “led by the Spirit” to offer his pure daughters to the perverts.
Anyway, what was their reaction? “He keeps acting as a judge.” In other words, Don’t be judging us! There is NOTHING new under the sun! (Ecc. 1:9) Lot called them on their wickedness; and the sinners called him on judgment.
Turn now to Exodus 2. It’s the story of young Moses.
13 And when he went out the second day, behold, two Hebrew men were fighting, and he said to the one who did the wrong, “Why are you striking your companion?”
14 Then he said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?”
Ooooooo. The perfect transition into Matthew 7. The famous verse. Jesus said:
1 “Judge not, that you be not judged. 2 For with what judgment you judge, you will be judged; and with the measure you use, it will be measured back to you. 3 And why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye, but do not consider the plank in your own eye?
Who is Jesus speaking to here? We go back to chapter 5 to find he is speaking to his disciples, so believers. This is the Sermon on the Mount. Ok, so he is speaking to me and you. Look at verse three…”why do you look at the speck in your brother’s eye.”
Look at James 4
11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. 12 There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?
Am I saying it is ok to judge non-believers? No. But we are called to judge between what is good and what is evil.
Isaiah 5:20
Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil.
Romans 12:9
Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
Look at King Solomon’s prayer in 1 Kings 3:
8 And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen, a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted. 9 Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?”
10 The speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
11 Then God said to him: “Because you have asked this thing, and have not asked long life for yourself, nor have asked riches for yourself, nor have asked the life of your enemies, but have asked for yourself understanding to discern justice, 12 behold, I have done according to your words; see, I have given you a wise and understanding heart, so that there has not been anyone like you before you, nor shall any like you arise after you. 13 And I have also given you what you have not asked: both riches and honor, so that there shall not be anyone like you among the kings all your days. 14 So if you walk in My ways, to keep My statutes and My commandments, as your father David walked, then I will lengthen your days.”
And the next part of the chapter goes on to give an example of Solomon’s gift to discern and judge.
In my most recent experience Shawn and I were sharing with his cousin and she made the comment that Christians seem so judgmental. And again, it was over the homosexual agenda, we’ll call it. And we told her that we can see how it can come across as judgmental because for the most part “the delivery” of the message has been that way. But what it really comes down to and what I wish was delivered more was this…
Psalm 33:12
Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD.
If we begin to call evil good and good evil, woe to us. We are going to lose God’s blessing.
I know I tend to focus on the homosexual agenda, but it is the debate of my generation. Abortion has almost been forgotten about or accepted by this generation, even though it is just as evil. And shame on us for doing so.
So let’s look again at our Old Testament stories…
Lot in Sodom called what they were doing wicked. Was it? YES! Was he judging them? I don’t think so. He was calling evil, evil. And telling them to not do this evil thing.
Moses coming upon a scuffel on his walk… Was he a part of the scuffel? No. Did he have a plank in his own eye and trying to get the speck out his fellow brother’s eye? I think so.
So my friends in these last days are you ready to call evil, evil and good, good? There is a judgment day coming. It’s not really something we talk about very much in our “God-is-love- or – there-is-no-God-Society”. And by the way, like Kent Hoevind says, Evolution is just a cop-out. If there is no God, there is no judgment and therefore I can live however I want to live and don’t have to answer to anybody.
Psalm 9
7 But the LORD shall endure forever;
He has prepared His throne for judgment.
8 He shall judge the world in righteousness,
And He shall administer judgment for the peoples in uprightness.
There is a judgment day coming. We need to go out with compassion and share the good news. Jesus came to save us.
And when you are being accused of judging hopefully you can say yes, I will judge between good and evil and woe is me if I don’t! And woe is this country if we don’t!

"NO!" seems to be the most common phrase coming out of my mouth right now. Brittany, I think you may be right...a baby may be easier than a puppy. But I'm still weighing the sides. :) I won't tell you what he just pulled out of the trash in the bathroom (I forgot to shut the door), I'll leave it to your imagination! :) Shawn is doing a great job training him though. He can sit now and he is getting better at drop it. He's trained on the leash and is sleeping in his kennel in the living room at night. He's not quite house broke but that's getting better too.
American Brittany's are the copper color. He was bread with European bloodline, so he came out black and white. I wanted to name him Panda, but it sounded a little too feminine.
The three of us went on a trail walk down by the river with my friend Dana this morning. It was beautiful. Sadie's coat is pretty long right now so she must have gotten hot because she jumped right into the river. Good thing she is a good swimmer! Rocky wanted to follow suit, but I had him on the leash so he could only get his feet wet and get something to drink. Next time we go down there I'm going to have to take my camera. It was so pretty.

Our new baby and carving pumpkins
We got a puppy! His birth name is Benjamin Franklin because he was born on the 4th of July, but we named him Rocky. He is all puppy with his nose to the ground. He is full blood Brittany Spaniel, so Shawn is hoping this one will actually be able to help him hunt. Sadie doesn't know what to think, but Rocky likes her.
I had fun carving pumpkins this weekend with the girls.

Vacation
We're back in good ol' Cody. We had a really nice trip, except for one day in San Fran where everything seemed to go wrong. But it could have been worse. We did a lot of shopping and visiting family in Reno/Sparks/Carson City. It was really fun to meet more of Shawn's family. Was anyone else in San Fran last weekend? Cuz I'm pretty sure the rest of the world was. It was SO BUSY! There was a 49ers game, fleet week (where the navy ships come into port), and the blue angels were doing a show over fishermen's warf, and a parade for Columbus Day. So, yeah, there were a few too many people around. But we got to see everything we wanted to see except to visit Alcatraz. We only got to see it from the shore because the tours were booked solid while we were there. Oh, and we didn't get to see Ghirardelli Square because they shut our cable car down early because the traffic was so heavy. But we got some chocolate the next day at Union Square. Yum. We saw Frankie Valli, the guy who sang "Sherry Baby." He was the grand marshall in the parade. We went to the beach and watched some surfers and then drove across the golden gate bridge, which was also packed with people. It really would have been a great opportunity for a terrorist attack if they wanted to effect a lot of people. Is that wierd to think? :) I don't know if everyone has been hearing the sick things that the homosexuals have been doing (a parade and posters mocking the last supper and saying Jesus was a homosexual), but I kept thinking judgment was going to come while we were there. I'm crazy. I know. :) I'm having problems uploading images. So I'll try again later.

Current Happenings
My parents were down for a nice visit this weekend. My dad was able to go golfing on Saturday and my mom and I made donuts. MMM They are so yummy. We had Shawn's parents over for dinner that night. Shawn cooked up a brisket for us and it was very yummy as well.
I found out on Monday that the blood test for mono came back negative, so the doctor was wrong. So I have a virus and I guess that is the most we're going to know.
We are leaving Friday for vacation to Reno. We are so ready! We're going to head over to SanFran for a night too. It should be fun and hopefully relaxing.

Think about it
I have a challenge for everyone...
Take one minute (or longer if you need) and think about eternity.
Then post a comment and share with me your thoughts.

Motivated by Compassion, 9/16 sermon
· A 1978 study by Alan P. Bell and Martin S. Wineburg reported that 43% of homosexuals had more than 500 sex partners during their lifetime. Value: hurting people
· 40-50% of marriages in America end in divorce Value: covenant of marriage
· The number of reported abortions in the U.S. more than doubled in the first two decades after legalization, reaching more than one million each year. Value: human life
· at least 5 million people in North America claim Islam as their religion and/or practice. Value: souls
1. Some things stir our emotions and others do not.
2. Our emotions are stirred because of the value or lack of value we have put on what we are experiencing. Remember the story of Moses…his mother had put him in a basket and set him in the reeds in the river because the Hebrew sons were to be killed… Pharaoh’s daughter found the basket Ex. 2:6 “And when she opened it, she saw the child, and behold, the baby wept. So she had compassion on him” and she took him into her home and raised him. Even though her father did not value human life, especially of the Hebrews, his daughter did.
3. Jesus was often moved with compassion, but Christ’s compassion was more than just a stirring of His emotions.
Matthew 9
35Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37Then he said to his disciples, "The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field."
1. He was moved with compassion
a. They were as sheep having no shepherd-- they were vulnerable, they needed someone to care for and protect them. He had come to give that care and protection.
b. Called us to ask the Lord for workers
i. We cannot pray for workers unless we are willing to go ourselves, should the Lord call us.
ii. In the AG we have close to 5000 appointed world missionaries and over 1500 appointed home missionaries. We need to pray for more workers, of course, not just in the AG.
Matthew 14
13When Jesus heard what had happened (John the Baptist beheaded), he withdrew by boat privately to a solitary place. Hearing of this, the crowds followed him on foot from the towns. 14When Jesus landed and saw a large crowd, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15As evening approached, the disciples came to him and said, "This is a remote place, and it's already getting late. Send the crowds away, so they can go to the villages and buy themselves some food." 16Jesus replied, "They do not need to go away. You give them something to eat."
2. He met people at the point of their need
a. He touched them. Mark 1 40A man with leprosy[f] came to him and begged him on his knees, "If you are willing, you can make me clean." 41Filled with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" 42Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cured.
i. If you touched someone with leprosy, you were at risk of getting it
ii. It was gross
b. He didn’t send them away for someone else to meet their need
i. “You meet their need”
ii. “But Lord, I’m not able to meet it. Do you see all these people?” “Maybe not, but I am, if you will allow me to.”
c. They touched Him. Matthew 14 35And when the men of that place recognized Jesus, they sent word to all the surrounding country. People brought all their sick to him 36and begged him to let the sick just touch the edge of his cloak, and all who touched him were healed.
Conclusion
1. Jesus was moved with compassion because He saw:
a. Where they were
i. Do we see people where they are? In sin, hurting, in poverty, helpless, hopeless – remember the video we watched at the beginning of the Igniting the Passion video series? It was of people drowning in the sea, and they sat in their comfortable house boat, instead of sending out the the rescue boats.
ii. Jesus said he saw them harassed and helpless
b. Where they were going
i. Do we see where they are going?
ii. Jesus did and that is why He died on the cross.
c. Where they could be
i. Do we have the vision of Christ? If we share with them the hope that we have of abundant life on earth and eternal life with Him in heaven!
2. What stirs me? Am I more concerned about the physical or the spiritual? Am I repulsed at the sore, or am I broken over the leprosy, or in today’s terms, the cancer?
3. What am I placing value on?
4. This kind of compassion comes only through the heart of Jesus.
a. Pastor Don, Diane and I have been praying for the Lord to stir up compassion for our kids, and He has answered that prayer with Sharleen. It has been so exciting to see her brokeness for them first of all, but also seeing her obedience in taking action. She shared with us in our women’s fellowship the vision that she has and all the activities she has planned. Praise the Lord!!!! So please, let’s do what we can to support her and encourage her and prayer for her and our kids!
5. Will we purpose to have Christ’s compassion? This purpose must motivate us to act.
a. We must go where people are: work, parks, rec center, campgrounds, bars if you feel comfortable or called
b. Meet their needs: give a shoulder to cry on, pray with them!
c. Give of ourselves: open your home and your resources. Remember the example of the believers in Acts, giving to anyone as they had a need.

Martyrs
I don't know about you, but sometimes I forget when I'm reading the Bible what happened to the men of the New Testament. This morning in Sunday School we talked shortly about Paul's death as a martyr, and that the "opposition" tried to quickly get rid of the eye-witnesses of Christ because they have the strongest testimony, which makes complete sense if you're trying to destroy a "movement." So here are their stories, all martyrs for the sake of the Good News: Stephen- stoned to death (recorded in Acts), James- beheaded with his accuser (because his accuser was so amazed at James' courage he chose to be beheaded with him), Philip- crucified, Matthew- slain with a. halberd, James the less- beaten and stoned and finally had his brains dashed out with a fuller's club, Matthias- stoned and beheaded, Andrew- crucified on an X cross, Mark- dragged to pieces, Peter- crucified upside down (because he said he was unworthy to be crucified in the same manner as Christ), Paul- beheaded, Jude- crucified, Bartholomew- crucified, Thomas- thrust through with a spear, Luke- hanged, Simon- crucified. My reference was Fox's Book of Martyrs.
Even when the eye-witnesses were all "offed", the movement continued and continues to this day in our own testimonies of what Jesus Christ has done in our lives. I can't help but think of the martyrs of our generation, Rachel Scott and Cassie Burnall of the Columbine High School shootings, who answered "Yes" to the question, "Are you a Christian?" They will receive the greatest reward.

Testimonies
Our Lord is so good, and I want to start to share some testimonies of the good things He has done. One of my favorites is Dave Roever's testimony. He had a phosphoric grenade blow up in his hand in Vietnam and lived to tell about it. I heard his testimony on tape as a child and had the privilege of seeing him speak when we lived in Texas. He told of how he struggled with the "why?" for so many years until one day he was invited to be on TBN with Jan Crouch. She asked him if he knew why God had allowed it to happen to him as if she knew the answer and it actually made him mad, "Does this little lady with pink hair really think she has this answer I have been searching all these years for?" She said, "Dave, he trusted you with those scars." And at that moment he testifies he was set free from all suicidal thoughts and depression that had plagued him even while he had been ministering. Praise the Lord! He has turned his testimony into "comic book" form and you can read it on his website. God is using him greatly to minister to our troops today and to the people in Vietnam. To God be the glory. http://www.daveroever.com/roeverstory.php
I'm still alive
Whatever I had I survived, at least, so far. I came down sick with something on Friday. It's most likely just a virus, but they are watching for other things, such as appendicitis (it was extremely tender when the doc pressed on it) and West Nile (I was bit here and in ND). Thank the Lord if it is a virus that Shawn didn't get it. It was actually one reason I was convinced it was more than just a virus! :) He was so wonderful taking care of my every need. I am a blessed woman!

long time no type
I haven't been in the blogging mood lately, so I have quite a bit to catch up on!
We did watch 300 and it was a really great movie. Of course, like most movies now-a-days we had to forward through some vile scenes, but overall, the message and action of the movie was superb. I actually enjoyed the fighting scenes, which I usually don't. They're portrayal of Xerxes was very interesting. It made me want to study up on him. I would definitely recommend this movie, but keep your hand ready for the forward button. We also watched Astronaut Farmer. Shawn stopped watching it because it had liberal undertones. It ended up being pretty corny, and again, what I would call a typical Hollywood script.
The finches have been pigging out on my feeder, so it is fun to watch them. There is a nest in the apple tree, but it doesn't look like my bird house has any occupancy yet.
Last weekend we went home for my 10-year reunion and I had a blast. It was so much fun seeing my girlfriends! We had a lot of laughs and did a lot of reminiscing. We were given a tour of the school by our history teacher who is now the principal... very nostalgic! It was so wonderful to see the sunflower fields and the rolling hills of ND. I really do miss it, but I don't know so much to move back. Just wish I could get back a little more often. Jamin and Tanya brought Megan by Saturday morning on their way to take her to Minot. Megan is 5 years post-transplant (Praise the Lord!) and is cheerleading this year! And her coach is my high school coach! Yes, it's a small world. Claudia and Dewey came up to have lunch and spend the afternoon with us, so we had a nice time catching up a little.
My grandparents are moving back to Underwood this week into the house next door to my parents. It will be nice to get to see them more often. We're just praying they adjust to small town again. :)

My dog, the baby robin killer
Sadie got her first bird of the season this weekend. I tried to prevent it, but it all happened so fast. She had had her eye on it for a while, always going back to the lilac bushes to sniff it out. And then on Saturday I took her out with me to take out the trash and there they were, two of them on the ground. Sadie froze to a point and I looked over and it all happened in a flash. I don't think I've ever seen her move that fast and she chomped down on the one. I hollered, but it was too late. She did one more chomp and then dropped it and ran to me in excitement. I dropped my bags of garbage and went to see if there was any sign of life, and there was none. The baby was gone and Sadie was so proud. And so was Shawn. So here I am feeling guilty for trying to attract birds with a feeder and bird house, and little do they know a killer is in their midst.

Movies, Grilling and Mackenzie the chicken
We watched a couple of movies this weekend. Friday night we watched The Number 23 with Brad and April. It was alright, pretty dark. It keeps you guessing and it has a cute bulldog in it. :) Jim Carey did a decent job, but towards the end he was doing a dramatic scene and I kept expecting him to break into Ace Ventura. So that kinda ruined it for me. :P
Saturday night we watched Zodiac. I'm a sucker for movies based on a true story. This one is based on the Zodiac killer, the serial killer in California in the late 60's who they never caught. The murder scenes are pretty graphic. Robert Downey Jr. did a fantastic job in it. So we've had our share of dark movies lately, I'm ready for a chic flick or something! 300 comes out tomorrow, so I guess there isn't hope for this week.
Shawn put our grill together on Saturday, so we grilled up some chicken breasts last night for dinner. . .Yummy!
Sunday we took the nieces and our neighbor's grandson to the park to play wiffle ball. We were taking a water break and Mackenzie declared, "Hey look- I laid an egg!" We all looked over and she popped up to show the wiffle ball under her. I thought it was hilarious!

Getting Carded
I forgot to share this story!
A couple of weeks ago I went to Wal-Mart and bought some cold medicine. I was at the self-checkout and I scanned the cold medicine and the red light went on. The supervisor came over and said, "Oh. I'll have to see some I.D. for the cold medicine." My response was, "Really? How old do you have to be?" She said 18. I said, "You're kidding me. Well I guess I should take that as a compliment, to look 10 years younger." So I gave her my I.D. and laughed. It's true, the day comes when you do appreciate it!

Dumb Grackles
Well the grackles are nice and fat now. I see them pigging out while all the little birds watch. I would take my BB gun out, but one guy last week did that to shoot down a hornets nest and someone called the cops on him and they brought in the Cody SWAT team. I think they brought in the SWAT only because there was a shooting at our Wal-Mart a couple weeks prior. That's a crazy story--this guy that had a 20-year vendetta against another guy shot at him riding on a motorcycle in front of the entrance to WM. He's been charged with attempted murder and some other stuff. He is like 60 years old, and a bad shot I guess cuz he didn't come close. But other people were walking out of WM so they were put in danger. Pretty crazy stuff for little ol' Cody. Then that same week we had a bomb scare at the airport...some guy had a some party toys in his bag that looked like a bomb, so they shut down the airport and the highway and flew in the national guard and bomb squads and stuff. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Our weekend
We had a nice weekend...
Friday night we played ping pong on the Xbox. It was fun! We split matches.
Saturday we drove up to see Christy, Ryan and Rylin in Billings. We went to the mall and Costco and a couple other stores. Ryan's family was gracious enough to have us for a family bbq. The steak was sooooo yummy! Rylin was such a doll. She likes her Aunt Cheri, until she has to wipe her dirty face! :) It's so cute to see her signing, and talking a little too. She tripped and bonked her forehead on the piano stool...poor thing. She recovered quickly though. I was impressed. :) No blood, no foul. Other than the heat, we had a great day!
Sunday, I was in the nursery for church and Shawn worked on the yard. I don't think the birds have found my bell feeder yet. :( I'll see robins under it every once in a while, but never on it.
We haven't seen any movies lately. Christy, what did you think of the Adam Sandler movie?

Apocalypto goro
We had another warm weekend in Cody. Friday night we had Brad and April over. April and I meet for prayer every other Friday. We have been challenged and encouraged, and have seen God move on our behalf! We are so thankful for their friendship and will miss them very much when they move back to Michigan this fall.
Saturday I cleaned the house and Shawn took care of the yard. I love my new Tri Star vacuum! I just got my new floor attachment in the mail today; I'm very excited to give it a try. I finally got my bell bird feeder hung in the apple tree and put the bird house in it as well. Now we're just waiting for the birds to find them! As soon as they do I'll post some pictures. :) We rented Apocalypto and watched it that evening... wow. It was extremely difficult to watch. It would be one thing if it was just Hollywood, but because it is a historical portrayal, the pagan ritual scene is mortifying. It was very demonic, and Mr. Gibson makes that very clear. I must say the birthing scene was the best. Shoot me a comment if you don't want to see the movie, but want to know what I mean. :) I would have enjoyed a more edited version of this movie. And the jaguar was a little too fake for me.
We had a good service Sunday morning...9 visitors. The congregation sounded like a large choir praising the Lord! That is such a blessing to me. I was able to find the chords to lead the old hymn "He Set Me Free." It is one of my favorites so that was fun! "He set me free, yes, He set me free. He broke the bonds of prison for me. I'm glory bound, my Jesus to see. Glory to God, He set me free!"

Creation defeats evolution
We are watching Kent Hovind's creation science videos during our Wednesday night Bible Study. Shawn went to one of Dr. Hovind's seminars in Rapid City back when we lived in Spearfish. Since Shawn had taken alot of biology courses, he had been fed alot of evolution crap. He learned so much at the seminar that he keeps up with his stuff at www.drdino.com. So when we were looking for a new topic for Wednesday nights, I mentioned the videos and everyone got excited and said they wanted to see them. The first couple of weeks we downloaded them from the website and watched them, but then Shawn was able to find the dvd's on ebay. So tonight we watched from the dvd. I have to laugh...every time I stop the video because our time is up the people complain. They want to keep watching! They are that good! :) We started off with the age of the earth seminar. Dr. Hovind proves how the earth is NOT millions or billions of years old. It is approximately 6000 years old and 4400 years ago there was a flood that covered the whole earth. I encourage everyone to check his website and download at least one video and watch it. You'll get hooked! He is very comical, as well as informative. So instead of renting a movie this weekend, check out a video online and let me know what you think! Here is the direct link http://www.drdino.com/downloads.php

My puking dog

So I'm sitting outside talking to my parents on the phone last evening and letting Sadie roam the yard...so many smells, so little time outside. At one point I saw her eating grass so I yelled at her and my dad asked me why, so I told him she was eating grass again. He said dogs do that to settle their stomachs. Well my dog does it and she pukes it right up, so doesn't seem too settled of a stomach to me. So lo-and-behold, this morning at 6 am she waltzes into my room and starts puking! She must have gotten to more grass than I saw because it was quite a bit! Yuk! I was so mad, just what I want to do is wake up at 6 am to clean up dog vomit! I know what many of you are thinking...good preparation for parenthood. Right? Well that's why we have a dog. But I don't think I'm EVER going to enjoy cleaning up vomit. It really makes me want hardwood floors all over the house! :) So when I got to work I was telling my coworker about it and she said dogs eat grass to induce vomiting because they need to. Hearing these 2 different stories made me search online for an explanation and here is what I found out ... they have no clue why dogs eat grass and vomit. I had to laugh because one article said what I was thinking ... you would think they would have figured this one out by now. But they made a good point, we haven't found a dog that can tell us. :) I think Sadie just likes the taste of it, and knows she doesn't have to clean up the mess!

Yellowstone ... finally!
So after almost 3 years in Cody, the east gate to Yellowstone National Park, I finally got to go in! Memorial Day weekend our best friends from Rapid City, John and Kristin, came to stay with us and on Saturday we took a day trip into the Park.
It was John's first time too, so made it double special! Our first critter-sighting was 2 playful rock chucks at a rest area. There were a ton of bison, a coyote crossed the road right in front of our car, we saw a few elk and 2 grizzlies. Unfortunately we didn't see moose. We stopped at Old Faithful and did the walk around after it finally blew. I think we waited over 45 minutes. (It's suppose to blow every 20.) And I didn't get a picture of it blowing because my batteries went dead in my camera right before it blew. But Kristin got pictures so we have hard copies! Towards the end of the loop this really big guy wearing a Jacksonville Jaquars sweatshirt came walking towards us with his wife. I was staring because he really stuck out and I noticed he had Jaguar shorts on too. So then when he went past us I saw the number 92 on the back of his sweatshirt. I told Shawn I bet he was a player and a minute later he was walking towards us and then asked Shawn if he would take their picture! It was so funny! If my batteries weren't dead I would have taken a picture of Shawn taking their picture! So when we got home we looked it up and it was Rob Meier, D-Tackle for the Jaguars! Britt, you'll have to ask Eric if he remembers him...he is his age and played for Washington State. In fact, this guy's birthday is 8/29/77. Isn't that super close to Eric's? Anyway, Shawn had predicted a celebrity sighting when we pulled up to Old Faithful (it was PACKED), and we got one...well, sort of. :)

My Sadie-girl and my weekend

Here is a picture of my baby, Shay. She is camera-shy, so I don't have very many good pictures. This was taken the end of March. She had fun frolicking through all the snow. She is usually pretty prissy , like she always goes around water puddles and stuff. We think she is part Springer, part German Shorthair. We got her at the Humane Society, so you never know.
Yesterday we watched the nieces most of the day. We played wiffle ball for a while, but had to come in because it was so hot. It cooled off today, a nice relief. Church was actually bearable today with the cooler breeze coming in the windows. We had a picnic and pie auction to raise money for re-finishing our basement fellowship hall. I ended up with 2 pies...I was just trying to get the bidding going on a chocolate pie and got stuck with it! At least it was only $10 and a yummy pie!

Movies
Shawn and I watch quite a bit of movies, so this could be the topic for a few of my posts. A really good one we saw recently was "Breach." It is based on the true story (almost identical if you check out his story on wikipedia) of FBI agent, Robert Hanssen, who was selling secrets to Russia for years. Chris Cooper (from Seabiscuit) does an excellent job playing Hanssen. He is currently serving life in prison for espionage in Colorado and has been in the hole for the past 6 years for 23 hours a day. He is a devout Catholic with a dark side, and not only having to do with being a traitor. I think it would be fascinating to interview him now. And I pray he finds the real Jesus, our Deliverer, in that hole. I would recommend this movie.
We watched "Shooter" with Mark Walberg earlier this week... what a disappointment. It was the perfect Hollywood movie, and that's all I'm going to say about it. Oh, I will say that the scene that they say is in the Wind River Canyon in Wyoming, not even close. I would discourage you from seeing it, unless you like the perfect Hollywood type.
Last night we watched "Hannibal Rising." This is a very, very dark and gorie movie, as are the rest of them. But I think it is probably the darkest because it shows why he became what he became. I won't give too many details, but it has to do with what happened to him and his family in WWII. Basically, revenge drives him mad. At one point in the movie it is said to him, "You must forgive them." And of course, he doesn't. Only if you really like the other Hannibal movies, would I recommend seeing this one. But I'd rather watch a story of forgiveness.
So that is this week's movie review. :)

Rainbow: A Covenant Reminder

"I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life." (Genesis 9:13-15) I took this picture the end of May from the softball diamonds. It was such a beautiful rainbow. It was almost as if it ended right in that field. The Lord likes covenant reminders. Like wedding rings! They are a reminder of our covenant of marriage. Partaking in Communion is a covenant reminder! I've been learning alot about covenant lately; I even preached on it a couple of weeks ago. It's really an amazing study. Our God is a God of covenant, not a far-off, live-as-you-will God that some make Him out to be. He desires a "til death do us part" relationship just like our spouse desires. Except with Him it's "til death bring us together"! :)

Getting Started
I've had so much fun reading Brittany's blogs, that I decided to start my own. If I do as well at this as keeping a diarie/journal, it'll be a complete failure! :) But I'm going to try real hard, so we'll see how it goes.
We went to the Stampede Parade this morning and got a little sunburned. We met a classmate of Shawn's from high school and his wife there. It was my first time meeting them and they seem to be really cool. Troy and Shawn have been going fishing and they're looking forward to bird hunting this fall. We'll be going over to Shawn's parents to watch the fireworks tonight.
Well that's all for now. I have ideas brewing for future blogs, so this should be fun! :)
